(Foto: Freepik, irfansaif)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Singapur \u2013 Andrew Barnabas Wong von der National University of Singapore (NUS) stellt gr\u00fcne Treibstoffe und Chemikalien mit einem neuen Verfahren g\u00fcnstiger her. Im Fokus steht die Beschichtung von Kupferkatalysatoren mit nur 2 bis 5 Nanometer dicken Schichten aus Biopolymeren. Diese werden aus Muschelschalen, Holz und anderen biologischen Abf\u00e4llen gewonnen. Die Biopolymere k\u00f6nnen zudem Nafion und andere fluorierte Per- und Polyfluoralkylsubstanzen (PFAS) in der Katalysatorelektrode vollst\u00e4ndig ersetzen.<\/p>\n<h3>Feinabstimmung notwendig<\/h3>\n<p>Bei der elektrochemischen CO2-Umwandlung treibt Elektrizit\u00e4t eine Reaktion an, die CO2- und Wassermolek\u00fcle aufspaltet und sie zu Brennstoffen und Chemikalien wie Ethanol und Ethylen neu zusammensetzt. Kupfer ist der g\u00e4ngigste und effektivste Kat f\u00fcr diese Umwandlung.<\/p>\n<p>Um das Element jedoch dazu zu bringen, die angestrebten Verbindungen zu erzeugen, m\u00fcssen die chemischen Bedingungen direkt an der Oberfl\u00e4che des Katalysators fein abgestimmt werden. Diese Rolle spielen traditionell <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41560-026-02040-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nafion und \u00e4hnliche fluorierte Materialien<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Neue Biopolymerbeschichtung<\/h3>\n<p>Das Team der <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nus.edu.sg\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NUS<\/a> erzielt mit der nanometerd\u00fcnnen Biopolymerbeschichtung dasselbe Ergebnis auf einem grundlegend anderen Weg. Mithilfe von Spektroskopie und computergest\u00fctzter Modellierung haben die <a href=\"https:\/\/cde.nus.edu.sg\/mse\/staff\/wong-andrew-barnabas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Forscher um Wong<\/a> herausgefunden, dass die Beschichtung, die CO2 in der N\u00e4he des Kat konzentriert, unerw\u00fcnschte Nebenreaktionen unterdr\u00fcckt, und hilft, Ionen effektiver zu transportieren.<\/p>\n<p>All diese Faktoren beg\u00fcnstigen die Produktion von Ethylen, Ethanol und anderen Produkten. Als sie die beschichteten Kupfer-Elektroden noch mit Silber-Nanopartikeln kombinierten, konnte fast die gesamte elektrische Energie, die in den Prozess einfloss, zur Produktion genutzt werden.
